Organizers now accepting submission for this summer’s events
Seattle, WA – February 17th, 2011Beacon Rocks! is a free all volunteer outdoor performance series at Seattle's first festival street, Roberto Maestas Festival Street, adjacent to the Beacon Hill light rail station. Events are June 24, July 29, August 26, from 1-5pm. All styles of music and performance are welcome at these family friendly events. Performers may submit by sending links to music samples or descriptions of their performances to beaconrocks@gmail.com. Our commitment to a diversity of entertainment is illustrated by the tag line "Beacon Rocks! - and swings, raps, jams, sings, strums, dances and more".
Why is the music series called Beacon Rocks!? It’s Beacon, as in the neighborhood of Beacon Hill, and Rocks! as used to mean “a lively state of being excellent” NOT as in only rock music allowed. All type of music are considered and music in the series has includes trip hop, jazz, marimba, blues and rock. Performers in the series have included belly dancers, martial arts demonstrations, modern dance and more providing entertainment for the folks who live, work or go to school around Beacon Hill.
Now in its third year, Beacon Rocks! is presented by ROCKiT Community Arts, formed to promote music, musicians and fans of music in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. The events build community ties, while celebrating our diverse and culturally rich neighborhood. Beacon Rocks! events in 2010 and 2011 drew large crowds.
Beacon Rocks! has been produced with help from Jefferson Park Community Center, El Centro de la Raza, The Station Espresso, Red Apple, Beacon Hill International School, Einstein Signs, BAM Grants and an amazingly large number of other supporting groups, companies and especially individuals who have stepped forward to help get this series off the ground. In its first year, partial funding was provided by the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Small Sparks grant program.
ROCKiT Community Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making music and art available to everyone. ROCKiT Community Arts provides opportunities for art and music in the Beacon Hill area, in a variety of ways, at a variety of locations.
